Those of us who spend hours a day on the computer may think we know all the tricks there are to make our work easier. Tricks for Typing

Here are a few tips that will save you lots of time when typing documents:

  • Move the cursor quicker to the beginning of the previous word by pressing CTRL+Left Arrow, instead of doing it manually.
  • To get the cursor to the beginning of the next word, use CTRL+Right Arrow.
  • Recover a deleted item with ALT+Backspace.
  • Delete an entire word by pressing CTRL+Backspace.
  • Select a word you want to highlight quickly, without dragging the mouse, by double-clicking on it.
  • Highlight a whole paragraph by triple-clicking on it.
  • Make superscript and sub text by pressing CTRL + = for sub, and CTRL+ Shift for superscript.
  • Paste in plain text and not what was originally formatted, after copying, by pressing CTRL + Shift + V.

Efficiency and Space Saving Tricks

Have better luck with your PC running smoother with these tips:

  • When your PC takes a long time to boot up, you may have too many programs running when you get started. To eliminate unnecessary programs, press Windows key + R, then type “misconfig”. Select the Startup tab from the window that pops up, and you will be able to turn off any programs you want that are slowing your boot time.
  • Delete large space wasting files with WinDirStat, which is short for “Windows Directory Statistics”. It shows you which files are taking up the most space, and you can then delete them accordingly.

Tricks on the Keyboard

  • Close all your windows quickly if you’re in a hurry by pushing the Windows button +D, and they will all shut immediately.
  • Rename your highlighted files quickly by pressing F2.
  • Close the program running with ALT + F4.
  • To minimize all windows only, press Windows + D.
  • Re-open your last closed tab with Shift + CTRL + T on most browsers.
  • Instead of moving the cursor to the X in the corner, press CTRL + W to close the current window.
  • Take a screen shot with ALT + Print Screen.

General PC Tips

  • Adjust any setting on your PC with the Windows “God Mode” folder, which is a centralized Control Panel for all the OS settings. Access this by creating a new folder named: God Mode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}.
  • Backup beyond a local file with services like Google Drive, Drop Box or other reputable cloud storage solutions, as extra security.
  • Problem Step Recorder will record all mouse clicks and take screenshots. This tool is helpful to a tech when an issue with your PC needs to be diagnosed. Use this by pressing Windows + R then type the letters “psr”.

What is Radiation?

Radiation is energy that comes from a source and travels through space at the speed of light. This energy has an electric field and a magnetic field associated with it, and has wave-like properties. You could also call radiation “electromagnetic waves”.

The Electromagnetic Spectrum


  • Learn more about the electromagnetic spectrum    There is a wide range of electromagnetic radiation in nature. Visible light is one example.
  • Radiation with the highest energy includes forms like ultraviolet radiation, x-rays, and gamma rays.
  • X-rays and gamma rays have so much energy that when they interact with atoms, they can remove electrons and cause the atom to become ionized.

Properties of Radioactive Isotopes

  • Radioactive decay happens when an unstable atom gives off radiation and changes into a more stable atom of a different element.

Mobile device

A mobile device (or handheld computer) is a computer small enough to hold and operate in the hand. Typically, any handheld computer device will have an LCD or OLED flatscreen interface, providing a touchscreen interface with digital buttons and keyboard or physical buttons along with a physical keyboard. Many such devices can connect to the Internet and interconnect with other devices such as car entertainment systems or headsets via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular networks or near field communication (NFC). Integrated cameras, the ability to place and receive voice and video telephone calls, video games, and Global Positioning System (GPS) capabilities are common. Power is typically provided by a lithium battery. Mobile devices may run mobile operating systems that allow third-party apps specialized for said capabilities to be installed and run.

Early smartphones were joined in the late 2000s by larger, but otherwise essentially the same, tablets. Input and output is now usually via a touch-screen interface. Phones/tablets and personal digital assistants may provide much of the functionality of a laptop/desktop computer but more conveniently, in addition to exclusive features. Enterprise digital assistants can provide additional business functionality such as integrated data capture via barcode, RFID and smart card readers. By 2010, mobile devices often contained sensors such as accelerometers, magnetometers and gyroscopes, allowing detection of orientation and motion. Mobile devices may provide biometric user authentication such as face recognition or fingerprint recognition.

Major global manufacturers of mobile devices are Apple, Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, Sony, Google, HTC, LG, TCL, Motorola Mobility and Nokia.

The Internet is the global system of interconnected computer networks that uses the Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) to communicate between networks and devices. It is a network of networks that consists of private, public, academic, business, and government networks of local to global scope, linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless, and optical networking technologies. The Internet carries a vast range of information resources and services, such as the inter-linked hypertext documents and applications of the World Wide Web (WWW), electronic mail, telephony, and file sharing.

The origins of the Internet date back to the development of packet switching and research commissioned by the United States Department of Defense in the 1960s to enable time-sharing of computers.[1] The primary precursor network, the ARPANET, initially served as a backbone for interconnection of regional academic and military networks in the 1970s. The funding of the National Science Foundation Network as a new backbone in the 1980s, as well as private funding for other commercial extensions, led to worldwide participation in the development of new networking technologies, and the merger of many networks.[2] The linking of commercial networks and enterprises by the early 1990s marked the beginning of the transition to the modern Internet,[3] and generated a sustained exponential growth as generations of institutional, personal, and mobile computers were connected to the network. Although the Internet was widely used by academia in the 1980s, commercialization incorporated its services and technologies into virtually every aspect of modern life.

Most traditional communication media, including telephony, radio, television, paper mail and newspapers are reshaped, redefined, or even bypassed by the Internet, giving birth to new services such as email, Internet telephony, Internet television, online music, digital newspapers, and video streaming websites. Newspaper, book, and other print publishing are adapting to website technology, or are reshaped into blogging, web feeds and online news aggregators. The Internet has enabled and accelerated new forms of personal interactions through instant messaging, Internet forums, and social networking. Online shopping has grown exponentially both for major retailers and small businesses and entrepreneurs, as it enables firms to extend their "brick and mortar" presence to serve a larger market or even sell goods and services entirely online. Business-to-business and financial services on the Internet affect supply chains across entire industries.

The Internet has no single centralized governance in either technological implementation or policies for access and usage; each constituent network sets its own policies.[4] The overreaching definitions of the two principal name spaces in the Internet, the Internet Protocol address (IP address) space and the Domain Name System (DNS), are directed by a maintainer organization, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). The technical underpinning and standardization of the core protocols is an activity of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), a non-profit organization of loosely affiliated international participants that anyone may associate with by contributing technical expertise.[5] In November 2006, the Internet was included on USA Today's list of New Seven Wonders.[6]

COVID-19 digital resource center now open for families without internet

Most COVID-19 resources disadvantaged families need right now are online and out of reach


SAN ANTONIO – Organizations across the county are offering families basic necessities during the pandemic: food, masks, gloves, and toiletries.

But a major necessity many people don’t think of, is the Internet.


That’s why a local nonprofit and community center teamed up with Bexar County to offer a digital resource center.Most of the COVID-19 resources disadvantaged families need right now are online, and out of reach.

One in four families in San Antonio don’t have access to the internet, according to a study by the San Antonio Digital Inclusion Alliance.

It’s a stunning statistic — even more worrisome amid the pandemic.

“Getting a check from the IRS, being able to apply for any kind of assistance, it all required you to go online and sign up. If you don’t have internet, if you don’t have a computer, if you don’t have a scanner, because it requires you to scan documents, how are you going to access these things?” said Beverly Watts Davis, the senior vice president for Westcare Texas.

The nonprofit has joined other organizations and the county to bring a digital resource center to the east side’s Ella Austin Community Center.

It is a socially-distanced computer lab that can be spread out in multiple rooms if needed. People can also get help there learning how to use the computers and access specific websites.

Watts Davis said many people don’t think access is an issue because most people have cellphones. While that may be true, not all cellphones are smart phones.

“You can make a phone call on them. On some of them you might be able to take a picture, but you cannot access the internet,” Watts Davis said.

So while families are at the Ella Austin Community Center picking up food, personal protective equipment, or items for their kids, they can now jump on a computer and get the information they need.

Watts Davis said the resource center will be open as long as people still need it. It’s open on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Watts Davis said that was the most popular time for families to stop by to collect food and other necessities, so they decided to open the computer lab at that time as well.

Professional Computer Training Center Bringing Software Skills to the Greater Jewish Community – Now Online As Well

Professional Computer Training Center offers computer software training for the Greater Jewish community. A wide range of courses are provided both for those who are interested in acquiring cutting-edge computer skills as well as for those who wish to brush up on their computer knowledge. Located at 1 College Road, Monsey, NY, PCTC-Professional Computer Training Center classes are in high demand as the training center’s reputation stands in good stead. There is nothing else quite like it in the industry. The center has a large variety of software courses given in office administration including Microsoft Word, Excel and QuickBooks (a computerized accounting program).
